Modernising and Scaling a Mobile Application for the Industrial Sector

Client: Camfil

Location: Global

Project: modernisation and development of the Camfil Certificates mobile application

Scope of cooperation: solution analysis and design, application architecture modernisation, iOS and Android development, UX/UI design, integration with the existing backend and Microsoft Azure environment, testing, release, maintenance and development

Project Background

Camfil is a global manufacturer of air filtration solutions, providing systems used in commercial and industrial facilities. One of the company’s digital tools supporting its customers was the MyCamfil Connect application, which provided access to technical documentation for installed filters.

The solution enables users to identify HEPA filters by scanning QR codes and access the certificates and test reports assigned to them. Digital access to documentation makes it easier to catalogue, share and prepare it for audit and validation processes. The application also supported operational processes across Camfil factories and regional units, enabling test reports to be shared before filters were shipped to customers.

Over time, the technological limitations of the existing application began to restrict its development and the ability to respond quickly to user needs. Modernising the solution, combined with its rebranding and relaunch as Camfil Certificates, was intended to create a secure, stable and scalable foundation for future functionality and expansion into new markets.

Solution

We began the modernisation by redesigning the application’s technological foundations. Instead of developing two independent solutions for iOS and Android, we used Kotlin Multiplatform. This enabled us to share key elements of business logic while retaining native interfaces built with Jetpack Compose and SwiftUI.

This approach made both versions of the application more consistent, reduced the risk of discrepancies between platforms and accelerated the delivery of subsequent changes. Elements requiring direct interaction with the operating system – including the user interface and QR code scanning – remained native.

We integrated the new application with the client’s existing backend and Microsoft Azure infrastructure. Through APIs, users can quickly access certificates and test reports assigned to specific filters. Data and authentication security are supported by native Keychain and Keystore mechanisms, as well as secure token handling.

The modernisation also covered UX/UI. We redesigned key screens and processes, including login, the home dashboard, user account and filter scanning. We also introduced the ability to rename files directly within the application, making technical documentation easier to manage.

The solution was brought under a structured product lifecycle management model – from testing subsequent versions in pre-release environments and CI/CD automation to publication in the App Store and Google Play, followed by ongoing support and application monitoring.
