It is crucial that the workshops involve representatives from key departments, as well as business decision-makers who can influence the project’s direction. Ideally, the client team should be multidisciplinary, bringing together experts from product, marketing, customer service, IT, and future end-users of the solution.
The duration depends on the project’s scale and complexity. Typically, Discovery involves 3 to 5 workshops, spanning around 3 to 5 weeks of work.
Most projects require the inclusion of the following workshops:
- Business workshop: focused on business objectives, processes, and key functionalities.
- Marketing and User Experience workshop: analysis of user segments, customer journeys, UI/UX, marketing automation, analytics, and reporting needs.
- Technology workshop: discusses data, systems, integrations, performance, security, and technical concept of the solution.
- Project workshop: consolidates insights, aligns on project vision, defines the implementation roadmap, and outlines the cooperation model (e.g., phased delivery).
The scope may vary depending on the project (e.g., website vs. business system), but most often includes:
- Business Requirements Document (BRD) with goals, assumptions, and high-level business needs
- Identified business processes
- Functional requirements (functionalities)
- Non-functional requirements
- Website or system structure
- Use cases
- Technical solution concept including data model, required integrations, logical and physical architecture, and recommended technologies
- Technology requirements
- Project scope divided into stages (project roadmap)
